H 5165 has been scheduled for May 1st in Room 101 of the House side of RI Statehouse. “The rise of the house” at approx 4:30p

(Here is the facebook event link https://www.facebook.com/events/415281805870598/ )

This bill was the first bill introduced this year that is on our side of the debate of informed consent and medical freedom. This bill will make philosophical exemptions available again in RI (as they once were) for vaccinations. RI Dept of Health has been saying for years if you don’t want the HPV vaccine or any vaccine just fill out the religious exemption form. Which is defined by your personal interpretation of your strongly held belief system. However, what about body autonomy? What about the fact that public education is free and available for all, and if you decide that after evaluating something like the HPV vaccine or the flu shot – you do not wish to get these things – you should not be forced to get the medical procedure. The philosophical exemption allows you to not get a vaccine for the simple fact you control your body (or your child’s body). This is extremely important with the case of the HPV vaccine in RI, as you can not spread HPV in a casual classroom environment to begin with.

We strongly advocate for informed consent. If your only option not to get a medical procedure and still access the education you are entitled to as a citizen, is a religious exemption…….. than you are not being given true informed consent and the ability to decline appropriately. We encourage you to support this legislation that supports your rights as parents and individuals over body autonomy. Contact your personal legislators to support H5165, come to the hearing on Wed and email the committee to pass this bill.

H5541 Hearing / Talking Points

H5541 Hearing / Talking Points

WEDNESDAY MARCH 13TH 4PM the hearing for H 5541 has been scheduled for Rm 101.

This is the BAD DATABASE BILL that will automatically enroll every RI resident.

We need as many people as possible to show up to this hearing to oppose this bill. Last year it passed on the senate side. This year it is in committee on the house side early in the legislative session. PLEASE attend and bring a friend or two with you. We created a Facebook event also so it is easy to share and invite others on social media. https://www.facebook.com/events/2214858705392691/

When speaking at a legislative hearing you are given 2 minutes to say your testimony. You may also bring written testimony only and not speak if you would prefer. Please bring 23 copies of your statement with H5541 at the top, and your name- address – and phone printed clearly on the documents. The clerk will distribute them to the committee. If you are not able to make it and want us to submit your written testimony on your behalf – please email it to aimee@nohpvmandateri.com.

Talking Points to consider;

~ RI Dept of Health is exempt from HIPAA regulations. No privacy protection.

~ The database itself plus the personnel salaries to maintain it will inflate our already very large RI budget. When we can barely pay for our state expenses, why are we adding to the tally when there is no actual need for it.

~ Automatically opting residents into a database is unethical. Currently this already happens with the child database in RI, and has no option to opt out of it. This should never be supported in this kind of way. If a database was to even exist, each resident should need to sign up that they wish to participate, and voluntarily take part in it.

~ You want the right to make private and non tracked decisions regarding HPV vaccines for your preteens, if they start tracking adults, do you want them bothering you next with getting the HPV vaccine? It was recently approved for through age 45 by the FDA

~ The language for “opt out” in the bill is not defined, and does not guarantee your file will be deleted upon opting out. The current database for kids does NOT allow the file to be deleted.

~ It would continue forward with insurers and pharmacists on the vaccine recommendation committee, without any citizen parent advocates or even immunologists, on the panel.

~ The last two weeks there were topic hearings in congress about vaccination and removing exemptions for all vaccines (this would mean no longer being able to decide which ones you are okay with or not). Tracking you as an adult also means being able to try to later make adults comply to vaccinations without exemption options, and they will have a database to target you from.

~ The language of the bill allows for no restrictions of what gets tracked. They can add any fields in the future, currently they track if a mother was married when child was born – what does that have to do with health? & who are they to decide this is okay to track?

You can use and share www.2019.nohpvmandateri.com for writing prewritten emails to the committee. These are short and generic and we encourage you to add to them.

If the mandate of the HPV vaccine has shown us anything from RI Dept of Health, it is that they are not focusing on public health they are focusing on some kind of plan with a goal that is tied to dollars. In 2014 when the HPV vaccine was added to the schedule for 7th graders, the RI Dept of Health received a grant for over $600,000 to market the HPV vaccine. That’s over a half a million tax dollars spent in just this state to market a vaccine that Merck profits from.

Take action today.

Bills introduced in BOTH the house and the senate!

Bills introduced in BOTH the house and the senate!

Exciting News in RI in February. Legislation has been introduced in both the house and the senate in support of the mission to advocate for informed consent.

Senate Bill  S2405

Introduced By:
Senators Metts, Morgan, Paolino, Cote, and Archambault
This bill will allow for opt out by note vs exemption for the HPV vaccine by the wording of “non-casual contact disease transmitted by sexual contact”. Any parent or guardian can furnish the decision to the institution in writing. All consent forms and correspondence sent to parents and guardians about vaccinations shall affirmatively notify them of the option to opt out of participation in the vaccination program.
This bill is great for informed consent and we support that it is a move in the right direction. However, this bill does not remove HPV or any other non-casual contact disease future vaccine from not being included in the student vaccination list needed for school. It creates a philosophical exemption for that type of vaccine. We need you to help us send a message requesting that there be an amendment to the bill that changes wording to not having non-casual contact diseases on the list of vaccinations for school inclusion at all.
House Bills H7576 and H7686
 H7576
Introduced By:
Representatives Roberts, Quattrocchi, Lancia, Price, and Chippendale
This bill is an exact duplicate of the senate bill discussed above.
H7686
Introduced By:
Representatives O`Grady, McKiernan, Price, Roberts, and Filippi
This bill will add the philosophical exemption option for the vaccination program back in for Rhode Island. You can state it is against your feelings of what is best for your family, and not choose to state it is against your religious beliefs.
At this time the bills have not been scheduled for a hearing yet.
TWO call to action Items-
1- Call the Governor and leave a msg if needed. Stating that you “are tired of waiting for her to take action. That the HPV vaccine was added to the school schedule by administrative order and should be removed by her administrative office immediately.”
401-222-2080
2Send a prewritten email to the members of the house and senate committee in support of the legislation above. Don’t forget to sign the email with your name and address. You will need to send two emails. One to the house committee and one to the senate committee. CLICK HERE
Thank you for your support in this. It takes us all to make this impact together and you are an integral part of that process. Share this message with friends and family to be sure we overload the legislators with contact from the public.
Hearing is scheduled for March 28th 2018
